Yes that’s right… the end of Windows 10 support is creeping up and looming over us. But when, why and what does this mean? As of the 14th of October 2025, this will become effective.
What does this mean?
No, it doesn’t mean that your Windows 10 computer will stop working! Essentially by the term “ending the support” it means that Microsoft is no longer providing updates and maintenance for Windows 10 leaving devices potentially vulnerable to attacks and non compliant (GDPR).
If your business is currently Cyber Essentials certified, any Windows 10 device that has not been upgraded will cause a failure.
What won’t be supported?
- Security updates which help protect your computer from malware and other threats.
- Bug fixes and updates that address issues and improve the performance of the operating system.
- Some third-party software providers may no longer support their application on Windows 10.
Why is Microsoft stopping the support?
Although Windows 10 has been very popular, all good things must come to an end and make way for bigger and better. A couple of reasons why Microsoft are ending the support is because of:
- Technological advancements that offer major improvements in security, performance and user experience.
- Security. As Windows 10 is getting older, it becomes more susceptible to security threats.
- Innovation and continuing to introduce new features such as in Windows 11 representing the latest in operating system technology.
Important next steps
Although your Windows 10 device will still work, businesses must be aware that they will become more vulnerable to security threats, and you would be more likely to experience performance issues. If you are still using a Windows 10 device, it is recommended that you either upgrade or replace your Windows 10 devices. Eliminating the risk of data breaches and security issues is and should be a priority.
